I feel connected to this totem pole.

It was a year ago today that I spent Canada Day in the nation's capital. I think it should be part of every Canadian's birthright to spend July 1st in Ottawa at least once in their lifetime-paid for by the government of course! Well um...perhaps not.

The weather was cool and rainy-not your typical Ontario summer but it made for good museum weather and Ottawa has lots of those.
So that's what you look like in person Pierre.

Never miss a photo op!

Me and Parliament Hill

Wait-this is a better shot. You can see the river in this one.

The first few pics were taken at the Museum of Civilization and the last photo was at the Museum of Natural History. A number of these museums had free admission for Canada Day.

So what can you expect in Ottawa on Canada Day? Crowds of people, lots of red and white and watch out for the Canadian flag hats-they should be issued with a dangerous weapon permit.

Be prepared to eat lots of red and white food and beavers' tails. Not the real thing, though. It's a big hunk of flat fried dough smothered in your dessert topping(s) of choice. Be patriotic and get the maple flavour.

And book your accommodation early to ensure a place to sleep. There's so much security on Parliament Hill and I'm sure they don't take kindly to people sleeping in the streets.

  • Fireworks
  • Changing of the Guard in French and English
  • Singing of the National Anthem in French and English
  • Downtown businesses on holiday schedule i.e. shut!
They grow beavers pretty big on the Rideau Canal.
(Ah-my handler's thumb got in this pic.)

Hello-anybody home? Guess the Governor General is out for the day.

He's barely moving. I wonder if he's real.

Are you saying there's a resemblance?
